|Elizabeth Fry in Prince George
One in three women are victims of violence, most often by an intimate partner. But as common as violence against women is, it remains an under-discussed and often invisible force in our lives. We can help our daughters and our mothers and our families by better understanding violence against women.
|Empowered Women International
Empowered Women International (EWI) is an award-winning non-profit organization that channels the entrepreneurial spirit, the arts, and the creative capital of talented and high-potential immigrant, refugee and low-income women into new jobs and small businesses. We help women rebuild their lives, their families and livelihoods, one woman at the time.
The equality effect develops creative legal solutions to address the inequality of women and girls in Africa who are subject to some of the most appalling human rights abuses in the world today (the equality effect currently works in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi). By using the law in imaginative and original ways, the equality effect achieves concrete change that can result in increased freedom from violence, improved health, and increased prosperity for women and girls.
A place of safety and protection where you can receive assistance and support to rebuild a future free from violence
EVA BC responds to calls on a daily basis from anti-violence programs that need assistance. We provide referrals, support and information and help programs to connect with each other. We support front-line workers, administrators and Board members across BC. Some of the areas that we commonly assist with include: what to do when files are subpoenaed, interventions where women are at risk and systems are not acting, records management policy and procedures, child protection issues and apprehensions, court-mandated counselling clients, the impact of trauma counselling on the counsellor, accreditation, general policy development and program management.
As the need for help in our community has grown, so has the need for shelter beds for women and children. Mumford House is a 36 bed shelter for women and their children who need a safe place to call home while they look for safe and sustainable longer term housing.
