Centre Against Violence
The Centre Against Violence offers free, specialist family violence crisis intervention services and short term case management to all people, including LGBTQIA+ people and children, who are experiencing current family violence crisis. We have key offices in Wangaratta and Wodonga but provide services to the whole Ovens and Murray region, from Corryong to Mansfield, Rutherglen to Bright and everywhere in between.

Monarch Services was founded in 1977, when volunteers secured a grant to open the safe shelter, Mariposa House. The agency continued to grow to meet the need for safe shelter and services to domestic violence victims.
In 1987, the agency became one of the first Rape Crisis Centers to be funded in California, and was instrumental in developing and implementing one of the first Sexual Assault Response Teams in the nation. We currently serve approximate 1,500 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault each year.
All of our crisis intervention and prevention services are available in Spanish and English and are culturally sensitive. Printed materials are also available in both languages. Our outreach efforts have concentrated on poor Latino neighborhoods with residents that have several barriers to seeking services, including language, literacy and legal status issues, and cultural biases. We are extremely proud of our success in serving this special population.

The Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie has been providing shelter and support services to abused women and children since 1981. Opportunity House
Opportunity House Homeless Shelter was established in 1990. What began as a
12 bed residential home serving homeless women with children has grown to
become a 52 bed work-to-housing sober living facility, serving single women,
men, parents and children.
What sets us apart is that we are not an emergency shelter. We are a structured
program that helps individuals and families become self-sufficient. We do this by
creating personal case management plans, which include coping skills for those
suffering from domestic violence & PTSD, mental health evaluations, as well as
financial guidance & budgeting. We don't charge anyone to stay at OHouse, but
we do require that individuals save 90% of what they earn and families are
required to save 75%. We provide everything from shelter to clothing, toiletries,
food and more. We also require that everyone be drug free when they come in.
We support their sobriety by doing random drug testing, providing Sobriety
Support groups and providing transportation to Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
We work closely with the Children's Protective Services in helping our residents
reconnect with their children. We are a safe place that allows our residents to
have visits without a CPS worker being present. We have a 95% reconnect rate
with our residents. It is always a celebration when a child is reconnected with
their parent.
The other groups we provide are Parenting, Anger Management and our “Gâ€Â
Class - Goodness, Grief, Guilt. We also have our Children's Health & Wellness
Program which gives the children a trusted adult that helps them to cope with
their feelings, tutoring for school and to have a fun time doing it.
We are so much more than what comes to mind when you think of a homeless
shelter. We offer one HUGE difference. Right away our clients receive an
address. Without one, it is very difficult to receive services or support of any
kind. Checks have nowhere to be delivered and notices for job interviews cannot
be sent. It says much about what we stand for. Not simply a cot and meal, we
offer tools to build a new foundation with steps to a new beginning.
